SRK’s ‘Raees’ In Legal Trouble After Gangster’s Son Files Defamation Suit, Demands 101 Crores

Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited movie ‘Raees’ that postponed its release date to 2017 in order to avoid clashes with Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’, is now brewing another legal trouble. SRK, his wife Gauri Khan and actor Farhan Akhtar have been issued legal notices by a local court in Ahmedabad on Thursday against the upcoming film ‘Raaes’.

A defamation suit has been filed by Former underworld don Abdul Latif’s son Mushtaq Sheikh against the makers of the movie and he is demanding Rs 101 crore in damages. Legal notices were issued to Khan’s production house Red Chillies Entertainment Private Limited, co-producers Excel Entertainment and Rahul Dholakia Productions by Civil Court judge RT Vatsani.

The movie is based on the life events of gangster Abdul Latif and reportedly, the second part of the movie depicts Latif in a defamatory manner. This has upset the gangster’s son Ahmad who says that the movie damages the family’s reputation.

‘Raees’ stars Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mahira Khan, and is the story of a bootlegger who operated in 1980’s Gujarat. Latif was reportedly a part of Dawood Ibrahim’s gang and was wanted for many cases of murder, kidnapping and bootlegging. He was arrested in 1995 and killed by the police in 1997 while he was trying to escape from Sabarmati jail.
