Ahmedabad: E-autos to be used as feeder for BRTS

E-bus

As decided earlier, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has announced feeder routes for the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and, Saturday onwards, five e-autos will cater to the need of the commuters.
“To provide a last mile connectivity to the commuters and add more passengers to the BRTS service, we are introducing e-auto. For a pilot project from Saturday five such auto will ply from Memnagar BRTS stations,” said Rakesh Shankar, deputy municipal commissioner and executive director of Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited. “In next two to three months we’re planning to run 150 such autos in four different clusters between RTO to Chandranagar. The autos will be called ‘Jan e-rickshaw’. This project is a public private partnership project and AMC will earn Rs10 lakh per annum from this project. AMC will provide them parking space,” added Shankar.
Travelling could also be cheaper, said an official.
BRTS will finally have electric buses
Delayed by two months, now finally the BRTS will have electric buses. Saturday onwards, two buses will ply in the BRTS corridor. However, it is not as promised earlier. Earlier the civic body had announced that by January 2019, 50 electric buses will be used for the BRTS.
As decided earlier, 50 buses was bought for AMC on gross cost model. Ashok Layland has awarded the work for the next seven years.
Introducing electric buses was decided in 2017 when air pollution of city increased worst than Delhi.
